part of the Willian deal for a fee of around £2m
as Chelsea have finally admitted defeat in their
chase for Wayne Rooney!!
I was 100% certain that Rooney would sign for
Chelsea before the transfer window closes on 2nd
September but it seems that Jose Mourinho is
prepared to wait for his man and Rooney to wind
his contract down in Manchester which has only
two years remaining.
According to this breaking news story, Jose
Mourinho and Chelsea will confirm the agreement
that has been reached with Eto'o after tonight's
game and the player is expected to sign on the
dotted line this week.
Now before people judge, let me give you my
opinion. As I see this as Jose Mourinho adjusting
his strategy for the season up front. I posted a
while ago that the reason he wanted Rooney
was because Rooney could become the link man
up top just as Eidur Gudjohnsen turned out to be
for him back when he was charge before. Rooney
is the same type of player.
Eto'o as we know is very, very different. He plays
on the shoulder of the last defender as he has
pace to burn and the signing will signal a change
of strategy from the manager. Rather than look
for someone to link all our jigsaw pieces together
and bring our attacking midfielders into play, it
looks as though we will focus on our midfielders
opening the door instead.
At £2m (if this in fact confirmed by the club), Eto'o
could turn out to be the bargain of the season as
we all know what a proven goalscorer he is!
People will have their say on Eto'o but it's
important to remember he is 32 years old, has
worked with plenty of success under Jose
Mourinho before and will be used more or less as
a stop gap until Rooney becomes available this
time next year!
I personally think that if it comes off, it's a
cracking signing!
