Moyes Firm On Keeping Rooney At Manchester United

Manchester United manager David Moyes has again reiterated the club’s stance that want-away striker Wayne Rooney will not be sold this summer.

United travel to Swansea for their opening match of the new Premier League season on Saturday with speculation still surrounding Rooney and a potential move to Chelsea.

But Moyes remains firm that the 27-year-old will not be sold to one of the club’s biggest rivals.

"There have been no more developments and we don't want any more developments because we have told everybody - which I have said before – (Rooney) is not for sale," Moyes told Sky Sports.

Rooney has been struggling with fitness concerns this summer and has been virtually unseen during the club’s pre-season.

However, England manager Roy Hodgson called the striker into camp for the recent international friendly against Scotland, with Rooney playing at least 65 minutes at Wembley.

But despite admitting Rooney “did well” against the Scots, Moyes refused to speculate if he would start against Swansea, preferring to check the condition of his player before making a decision.

"I will need to see how he is when we get back. When I get back I will try and assess him,” Moyes said.

"I watched the game last night and I thought for the 65 minutes or so that he played, I thought he did well.

"He ran around, he got himself some fitness, but it certainly was his first outing in any real competitive game."
