As far as Chelsea's search goes for a new striker
all the talk seems to be around Wayne Rooney but
Jose Mourinho had revealed that he has a plan B
and C up his sleeve.
Manchester United don't look like they will budge
on Rooney and they'd need to make a big signing
in order to let their forward go and David Moyes
has said that he may not make any signings, but
I'd say Mourinho is perfectly happy for the media
to continue speculating over this whilst he looks
for an alternative.
We've already been surprised once with the news
that we are in the process of hijacking
Tottenham's deal for Willian and barring
something drastic that looks likely to be done,
could Jackson Martinez be the Blues' next surprise
signing?
The Express report that Chelsea are planning to
test United's resolve for Rooney once more with
an improved offer but thankfully it's unlikely Juan
Mata will be included in a swap deal as Mourinho
say that he has no plans to move the Spaniard on.
But Porto forward Martinez has been lined up as
another possibility. The 26-year-old has been
described as an out-and-out goal scorer than can
finish with either foot and was prolific in his debut
season for Porto with 34 goals in 43 games. Of
course Porto do not want to let one of their prized
assets go and often sell their players for
extortionate fees but won't be able to do much if
the Blues opt to meet his release clause of around
£30m+.
Despite his Anzhi coach saying that Samuel Eto'o
will be staying at the Russian club he is still being
linked to Chelsea as another Rooney alternative
but I just cannot see Chelsea (or any other club)
matching his current wages, so that's a no-go and
Martinez could well be Chelsea's best option
otherwise.
If Willian and another forward arrive I'd say Victor
Moses and Demba Ba will probably make way, but
out on loan rather than being sold.
