The Blancos legend has vowed to help the Wales international adapt to the tremendous expectation level that comes with commanding a world-record fee, if his transfer goes through.

Zinedine Zidane has said he will act as mentor to Gareth Bale, should the Welshman complete his 100 million euro move to Real Madrid.

The Tottenham Hotspur attacker is reportedly poised to become the game's most expensive player in the coming days and the Blancos assistant coach, who has previously held this distinction, says he will help the 24-year-old Bale adapt to the pressure of having to live up to such a billing.

"I know what it is like to be the world's most expensive player," Zidane told the Sunday People. "I will try and offer advice to Bale and act as his mentor, because there is always a lot of expectation when you're a big signing, but as a player you don't think about the figure.

"My door will always be open for him."

The former France international completed a 55 million euro move to the Spanish capital - a world record at the time - from Juventus in 2001 and fired the Blancos to their ninth European title at the end of his first season at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu
