George Sluizer

Dutch filmmaker, George Sluizer whose credits included features as well as documentary films and also known for directing two versions of The Vanishing, a 1988 Dutch-language release, originally has died at the age of 82.

The director passed away in Amsterdam on Saturday.
Sluizer garnered international acclaim in 1988 with his film Spoorloos, which was based on Tim Krabbe’s book The Golden Egg.

In 1993, he directed an American remake of The Vanishing, which starred Jeff Bridges and Kiefer Sutherland.
Sluizer’s next film Dark Blood hit a roadblock when star River Phoenix died of a drug overdose in 1993.

He chose to complete the production in 2007 after suffering an aneurysm and in 2012, it premiered at the Netherlands Film Festival.
