No fewer than twenty persons, including a female suicide bomber, have been confirmed dead killed in a major market in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, after a suicide bomber hit the area on Saturday.
Over 18 persons were seriously injured in the latest attack according to the Public Relations Officer of the Borno State Police Command, Gideon Jubrin.
The police boss said, the incident occurred at about 12.30pm at a section of theMonday market.
In a statement, the police spokesman said, “20 persons were killed in the attack, including the female suicide bomber, with 18 others injured at the market.”
Also confirming the incident, the spokesman for National Emergency Management Authority, AbdulKadir Ibrahim, said workers from the agency were at the market to render assistance, but declined to give the casualty figure.
The development, which came few days after the deadly sect took control of Baga from soldiers, has heightened fears among residents of the troubled North-East state.
