The man who turned the ice bucket challenge into an internet viral sensation has drowned in a swimming accident<br />
<br />
Corey Griffin, 27, had attended a fundraiser in Nantucket, Massachusetts, when the accident happened early on Saturday morning. Griffin had helped raise $100,000 at a charity function on Nantucket Island on Friday night, and reports say that at 2am he dived off a wharf into water and got into trouble.<br />
<br />
According to a police report, Griffin ‘floated to the surface… then went under water again not resurfacing’. He was pulled from the water and CPR was administered on the scene before he was taken to a local hospital. He was pronounced dead at 3am.<br />
<br />
Corey was a close friend of Pete Frates, 29, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2012. Frates’s family and friends launched the ice bucket challenge to raise money for ALS research.<br />
<br />
Corey helped promote the challenge, which has gone viral with international stars participating, and has raised millions.<br />

Yes, unfortunately it's true. Just confirmed from a family source. Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh, the Senior Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist who was one of the doctors who attended to Patrick Sawyer at First Consultant Hospital has died from the Ebola virus which she contracted from Sawyer.<br />
<br />
Dr. Ameyo died this afternoon Tuesday August 19th at the isolation centre in Lagos where she'd been quarantined. She died a hero because she was the doctor who refused to let Patrick Sawyer, the man who brought the Ebola virus to Nigeria, leave the hospital when he attempted to leave. She saved many lives by doing this.<br />
<br />
She's survived by a son and her husband. May her beautiful soul rest in peace...amen.<br />

Twenty-nine-year-old Ekene Ucheagwu, a native of Ndikpa Awuka Ogbunka, Orumba South Local Government Area, Anambra State, who committed an abominable act is now gnashing his teeth in the custody of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Anambra State Police Command.<br />

Ekene kidnapped his 65-year-old mother, Agnes, strangled her and then proceeded to burn her corpse in the dreaded Ogba Ukwu forest in the community.<br />
<br />
<br />
As the nation was celebrating the last May Day, Madam Agnes was reported missing. The kinsmen, Sunday Sun learnt from the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr Usman Gwary, promptly suspected her son, Ekene, because of the lingering misunderstanding between him and the mother.<br />
<br />
Gwary said Ekene was summoned by the kinsmen to ascertain what he knew about the incident. Curiously, he told them to prepare a burial place for the missing woman.<br />
<br />
It was further gathered that the problem between mother and son began sometime in 2012, and led to the hapless woman being beaten by the son, who broke her arm in the process. For such case of assault and battery, the police arrested and detained him for sometime at Umuchukwu Police Station. While in police custody, he was said to have sworn to deal with his mother whenever he regained freedom. True to his word, Ekene carried out the threat by beating her again.<br />
<br />
At the office of SARS, where he is being held, Ekene spoke with Sunday Sun, accusing his late mother of being a witch, who used satanic powers to frustrate him and his siblings, preventing them from progressing in life.<br />
<br />
His words: “My mother was evil. I killed her because of her wickedness.<br />
<br />
She prevented us, her children, from progressing. She was a witch and rained curses on us not to progress. She used her witchcraft powers to blind and attack us. I killed her because she planned to kill me because I called her queen of the coast. I beat her initially for her wickedness, but I am beginning to regret my action because my people have isolated me. I cannot forgive my mother. She had six children, three girls and three boys. My sister and brother died and she was behind their deaths.”<br />
<br />
One of the kinsmen of the suspect, Josiah Okoli, commended the Commander of SARS, Supol James Nwafor, a chief superintendent of police (CSP) and his team for the quick investigative work that led to the arrest of Ekene in Aba, Abia State.<br />
<br />
Okoli recalled that the police had given a firm commitment to arrest the perpetrator of the act before the late Agnes would be given a befitting burial. He expressed satisfaction that the culprit was eventually uncovered.<br />
<br />
Gwary gave an assurance that the suspect would soon be arraigned in court.<br />

ThisDayNewspapers reports that at least two people are feared dead, while 20 others are hospitalised in various hospitals in Plateau State after consuming excessive quantity of salt and bitter kola to prevent Ebola Virus Disease .<br />
<br />
According to the publication, the two who were rushed to the hospital by family members, collapsed in the morning after consuming too much salt over night.<br />
<br />
They reportedly later died of high blood pressure in the hospital.<br />
<br />
The medical personnel in the hospitals where other patients are currently taking treatment in Jos, developed ulcer, while others stool profusely, having consumed the table salt in excess.<br />

Bus Conductor Burnt To Death, 3 Others In Hospital After Dreadful Accident

An auto crash in Ibadan, Oyo State, claimed the life of a bus conductor and left three others at hospital on Monday, August 4<br />

The accident occurred in the early hours of Monday at Idi-Arere area of Ibadan, when the vehicle, with Lagos registration number, XA 401 LRG, hit a street light pole while trying to avoid a child, who unexpectedly crossed the road right in front of the bus.<br />
The man, who was working as a commercial bus conductor, simply identified as Tayo, was burnt to death, while three other persons in the bus, including an elderly woman, a child and a driver, sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the hospital.<br />
<br />
Immediately after three victims got out of the bus it was swallowed by fire. Thus the fourth victim was trapped in the burning vehicle and could not be rescued.<br />

A man identified as Oruma has stabbed his 20-year-old friend in the neck over a N2,000 debt in Benin, Edo State.<br />

The victim, identified as Frederick Eze, was reportedly stabbed by Oruma in the Oza area of the state following a fight that broke out when the victim seized one of Oruma’s property for refusing to pay the debt.<br />
<br />
A source, who pleaded anonymity, alleged that Oruma stabbed Frederick, who hails from Ebonyi State and works in an ice-cream company in Benin, in the neck with a piece of broken bottle. He added that the victim bled and lost consciousness.<br />
<br />
PUNCH Metro gathered that the victim was rushed to a private hospital on a wheelbarrow after several cab drivers declined to take him.<br />
<br />
“Frederick went to demand N2,000 owed him by Oruma when an argument broke out and Oruma stabbed Eze,” the source said.<br />
<br />
However, another source said a fight broke out during gambling among friends, adding that the fight led to the stabbing.<br />
<br />
The source, who noted that the police had questioned Frederick at the hospital when he briefly came out of a coma, said the suspect had been arrested.<br />
<br />
Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer, Edo State Command, Noble Uwoh, said, “He has been arrested. The two people in the matter are friends.”<br />

The fight against Ebola has just experienced a major setback as Sierra Leone's top doctor fighting the outbreak has died from the virus. The death of Sheik Umar Khan ,39 was confirmed by the country's chief medical officer, Brima Kargbo.<br />

Sheik who was credited with treating more than 100 patients, was infected with Ebola this month and had been moved to a treatment ward run by medical charity Medecins Sans Frontieres in the far north of the country.Before his diagnosis, he told reporters:<br />

A 43-year old mechanic in Minna, Obi Orji has committed suicide over his inability to pay his N35,000 house rent b y drinking a poisonous chemical. It was learnt that Obi took his own life after his wife and five children had left for the morning mass, leaving only him at home. Here’s how his colleague described what happened.<br />

Obi’s landlord, simply identified as Alhaji Lateef, had constantly traced him to his workshop at the Mechanic bye-pass in Minna, threatening to forcefully evict him out of the house if he failed to pay his rent at the appointed date.<br />
<br />
<br />
When the date expired and the deceased could not meet the obligation, he decided to take his life instead of facing the embarrassment and humiliation from his landlord.<br />
<br />
<br />
His body was later deposited at Minna General Hospital.<br />
<br />
The man must really have been frustrated to have done this.<br />

Former Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai just posted this on his social media pages. His young son, Hamza El-Rufai  died this morning in Abuja after a car crash. OMG. Just three months ago, Nasir lost his daughter, Zainab El-Rufai Mohammed. She had died from complications related to sickle cell anaemia.<br />

According to MailOnline, Morris had loaded Taegrin and his eight-year-old sister into their VW Golf outside their grandmother's house in Boksburg east of Johannesburg when three hijackers held guns to her head.In tears the heartbroken mother,Morris told she to Eyewitness News....<br />
'I asked them to let me get my children out, they could take whatever they wanted, but please let me have my children. I went to the back to pull out Taegrin,''I grabbed him and I held him and I pulled him,' ' but he was stuck in the seat belt.I don't know how many times they drove over him. They drove over my child.<br />
Her daughter managed to climb out of the car, but as Morris tried to free the boy from his seatbelt his foot became stuck and the hijackers sped off, ripping him out of her hands.<br />
<br />
Morris and witnesses to the hijacking ran after the car screaming, but it did not stop. It was later found four kilometres away, with the boy's battered body next to it.<br />
<br />
Police have offered a reward of 50,000 rand ($5,000 or £2,750) for information leading to the arrest of the hijackers.<br />
<br />
The little child’s father, Elwin, promised that if police didn’t find those responsible he would find them himself and kill them.<br />
<br />
'I feel like killing these people,' he said. 'God must help the police catch them first before I do.'<br />

Remember  the actor who played werewolf Fenrir Greyback in the film adaptations of the Harry Potter books, Dave Legeno, has died while hiking in California, the US police have confirmed. A pair of hikers discovered the 50-year-old in a remote part of the Death Valley in the early hours of last Sunday, the Inyo County Sheriff said. His death was confirmed by his management on Friday.<br />
<br />
Police believe Legeno, who was also a mixed martial arts fighter, died of heat-related issues, but added that the Inyo County Coroner will determine the final cause of death. A helicopter was sent out at the time to locate and retrieve his body.<br />
<br />
“There are no signs of foul play,” a sheriff’s department spokesman said. May his soul rest in peace.<br />

The body of the late pop-gospel artist, Kefee (Irikefe Don-Momoh, nee Obareki) was given a queen’s burial yesterday Friday July 11th in her hometown, Okpara Inland, Ethiope-East LGA, Sapele, Delta. <br />

The whole town ground to a standstill as the body of their late daughter arrived Akpevwoghene Educational Centre, Okpara Inland, around noon in a white SUV with ‘Omega 1’ as the plate number.<br />
She was also in a white casket and was laid in state in the middle of the school’s football field while friends and family paid their last respects. The casket was not immediately opened to the public but a funeral service was held in her honour while Sammie Okposo, his band and other gospel artists took turns on the stage set up at the venue. The husband, Teddy, clad in white had arrived earlier and received the body along with members of Kefee’s family. The first took her into one of the classrooms and said some prayers before taking the body to the centre of the field.<br />
A number of entertainers like DJ Gosporella, I Go Dye, Linda Etukudo, Nene SoulDiva, Anny Ibrahim, Princess, Aity Dennis, Daddy Showkey, Tosin Martins and Nikki Laoye were present at the funeral.<br />

After the service, the body was then transported to the burial site nearby where a beautiful mausoleum had been erected and buried amidst tears from friends and well-wishers.<br />
The parents, out of custom, were forbidden to either witness the funeral service or see the dead body of their child.<br />
Afterwards, in the evening, everyone regathered in Sapele for a celebratory event where gospel artists and a number of local upcoming artists performed till late into the night. See photos below...<br />
