Investigators has revealed that the Germanwings plane was infact deliberately crashed by none other than the flight's co-pilot, 28-year old Andreas Lubitz in a possible terrorist themed attack.

Carsten Spohr, the Head of Lufthansa, the German carrier that owns Germanwings said the 28-year old was "100% fit to fly without any caveats".

So what could have led the seemingly harmless Lubitz to kill himself and the 143 other people onboard the plane?

Here are 6 things we know for sure about the fated Germanwings co-pilot.

  • He joined Germanwings in 2013 straight out of flight school and worked as a co-pilot or first officer since then. Sources say he seemed pleased with the job.
  • He started training to be a pilot in 2008, at Bremen and Arizona. His training was briefly interrupted 6 years ago but resumed after "the suitability of the candidate was re-established".
  • He lived in Montaubaur, near Frankfurt, reportedly with his parents and had many friends.
  • His Facebook profile suggests he was a keen runner and had an interest in pop music
  • He had 630 hours of flying time and was regarded by friends as a normal, friendly man.
  • He was a member of the flying club Luftsportclub Westerwald, since he was a teenager.
