Buhari Issues May Day Message To Nigerian Workers

Muhammadu Buhari, the president-elect, in his May Day message expressed admiration to the Nigerian working class that sacrificed a lot in the face of tough economic times.<br />
The APC politician said he was fully aware of the workers’ hardships substantially compounded by poor governance and corruption, Nigerian Times reports.<br />
He lamented over the state of the working class in the country, rich in oil sources, saying that a few corrupt officials were making fortune at the expense of people.<br />
Buhari also said it was unfair that honest labour had been relegated to the background. He added that replacing honesty by quick wealth gain would never bring progress and prosperity to the nation.<br />

A recording of the telephone call by President Goodluck Jonathan to Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) on March 31, congratulating him on his victory at the last Saturday’s presidential election hit the Internet on Thursday. The recording revealed what transpired between the two leaders.<br />
<br />
Many said it was this gesture by Jonathan that put paid to the fear that violence might erupt across the country in the event that the result of the election was rejected by whoever was declared the loser by INEC.<br />
According to the audio, the following conversation ensued between Jonathan and Buhari:<br />
<b>Jonathan’s aide:</b> Your Excellency, Sir.<br />
<b>Buhari’s aide:</b> Good evening.<br />
<b>Jonathan’s aide:</b> Hope I’m speaking with General Buhari, sir.<br />
<b>Buhari’s aide:</b> Yes.<br />
<b>Jonathan’s aide:</b> Ok, President Goodluck Jonathan will like to speak with you, sir.<br />

Contrary to a statement accredited to him on CNN ,promising to tackle Boko Haram in two months,the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organisation has described the media reports as misleading and unfounded..In a statement issued by Director of Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation, Garba Shehu, on Thursday, Shehu said Buhari never made such a promise.<br />

 “His Excellency, the President-elect is still waiting to be sworn in on May 29. After the ceremony, he would need time to study the security situation and plan strategically with the security chiefs as to the way forward. Time is of essence here.Therefore, President Buhari didn’t and wouldn’t peg the decimation of terrorism from the country’s territories to just two months.<br />

The General was unequivocal about cleansing Boko Haram from our land; he would do a good job of it by giving a final, permanent push to rid Nigeria of unscrupulous elements. “The President-elect said that much to the world media including the British Broadcasting Corporation and Cable News Network.He never put a time-frame to when he would eliminate terrorists. It would be unfair and mischievous for someone to ascribe to him what he hasn’t said.”<br />

President –Elect, Muhammadu Buhari has reassured that his administration will crush the Boko Haram militants within two months of his assuming office. General Buhari spoke yesterday evening during an interview with Christiane Amanpour on CNN, monitored in Lagos.<br />
<br />
He said there is insecurity in the north-east and in the Niger Delta regions just as he explains:<br />
 “we know how they started and where they are now and we will rapidly give attention to security in the country. And I believe we will effectively deal with them in two months when we get into office.”<br />
He said the Federal Government made some mistakes in its fight against Boko Haram and his<br />
administration will address the issues. Buhari however stressed the importance of the support and assistance of Nigeria’s neighbours: Niger, Cameroon and Chad to help checkmate the militants.<br />
“We will be needing the cooperation of neighbouring countries such as Cameroon, Chad and Niger. There were efforts made by the President Goodluck Jonathan administration, but it was not good enough and it came rather late,” he said.<br />
<br />
But where did the Jonathan administration go wrong. SunNews reports Buhari drew attention to the poor showing of the Nigerian military in the fight against Boko Haram and explained thus:<br />
“We expected the Federal Government four years ago to sit down with these countries and make sure they do not allow the terrorists free movement across borders, training facilities and movement of weapons.<br />
<br />
These were only done a few months ago and we have seen how Cameroon, Chad and Niger are fighting Boko Haram more than Nigeria is doing until recently. Really we have seen enough and we have enough law enforcement to face Boko Haram squarely.”<br />
Buhari is confident that under his government, the Nigeria Army will perform differently. He also said the performance of the military was affected by corruption in the system.<br />
“They will…if you recall, the Nigerian soldiers out of all ethical expectations were granting interviews to foreign journalists, saying they were being sent to fight terrorists without proper weapons. And then the National Assembly attempted to conduct a hearing to find out how much money was approved for training and weapon in the last three years but that hearing was scuttled by the administration.”<br />

Buhari floors Jonathan in Obanikoro, Bode George, Agbaje’s wards

Lagos—Early results in Lagos State indicate that the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, is winning Lagos by a wide margin.<br />
<br />
Results collated in different polling units revealed that Buhari defeated Jonathan in the ward of Senator Musiliu Obanikoro and the PDP governorship candidate, Jimi Agbaje. In Obanikoro’s ward, polling unit 013, Gerald, Ikoyi, Buhari scored 62 to defeat Jonathan, who polled 38.<br />
<br />
In Agbaje’s ward in Apapa, Buhari polled 127 votes to beat Jonathan, who scored 60 votes.<br />
At polling unit CPU 032 in Ifako Ijaiye, Buhari won by scoring 83 as against Jonathan’s 77 votes.<br />
<br />
In Agege Local Government Area, Ward 11, unit 006, Buhari led Jonathan by 23 to 10 while in polling unit 007 in the same ward, Buhari won by 130 to Jonathan’s 69 votes.<br />
<br />
In polling unit 009, Ward II, Agege, Buhari won by scoring 117 votes, while Jonathan polled 71. At polling unit 010, ward II, Buhari defeated Jonathan by scoring 139 votes as against Jonathan’s 81.<br />
<br />
In Ward II, unit 011, Buhari won by 95 against Jonahan’s 35 votes. Likewise, in polling unit 012, ward II, Agege, Buhari won by 66 votes as against 54 polled by Jonathan.<br />
<br />
In the ward of the PDP Lagos Governorship candidate, Jimi Agbaje, Buhari won by a landslide, polling 127 votes as against 60 scored by Jonathan.<br />
<br />
In polling unit 047, Bola Tinubu’s ward in Alausa, Buhari polled 180 votes while Jonathan scored 55.<br />
<br />
In polling unit 008, Ward C, Buhari scored 95 as against 55 polled by the president.<br />
<br />
In polling unit 003, Ikeja, Buhari polled 67 and Jonathan 58 while in polling unit 009, ward F, in Ikeja, Buhari also led Jonathan by 49 to 39 votes.<br />
<br />
Likewise, in polling unit 38, Ward B, Buhari defeated Jonathan by 75 to 53 votes while in polling unit 037, Alausa, Buhari led Jonathan by 82 to 28 votes.<br />
<br />
In polling unit 012, Ward C, Jonathan led Buhari by 69 to 65 votes and also in polling unit 5, in Ikeja, Jonathan defeated Buhari by 86 to 67 votes.<br />
<br />
In Ward G3, where Governor Babatunde Fashola voted, Buhari won by a landslide, scoring 317 votes as against 135 votes polled by Jonathan.<br />
<br />
The result in Unit 005, in Egbe-Idimu Local Council Development Area, LCDA, Alimosho, showed that Buhari defeated Jonathan by polling 220 votes as against 137 polled by Jonathan.<br />
<br />
Other results:  Surulere: Ward G1, Unit 38: A Presidential – APC – 111, PDP – 76; Senatorial: APC – 105, PDP – 77, LP – 2; House of Reps: APC – 112, PDP – 66.<br />

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) defeated President Goodluck Jonathan in the elections conducted inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja.<br />

There are two polling units-Unit 021 and 022-located side-by-side within the premises of the seat of power.<br />
Buhari polled a total of 613 votes in the two polling units while Jonathan scored a total of 595 votes.<br />
At Unit 021, Jonathan beat Buhari to second position with 293 votes while the APC candidate scored 265 votes.<br />

At the second polling booth, Unit 022, Buhari emerged winner with 348 votes while Jonathan polled 302.<br />
For the Senatorial election in Unit 021, PDP polled 286 votes to beat APC with 260.<br />
In Unit 022, APC polled 337 votes while PDP scored 281 votes.<br />
For the House of Representatives election in Unit 022, APC polled 334 to beat PDP to distant second with 241 votes.<br />
For Unit 021 however, it was a close contest between APC that won with 255 votes and PDP that polled 254.<br />
<br />
A total of 575 voters were accredited out of the 2,181 registered voters for Unit 021 while 770 voters were accredited out of the 2,278 voters registered for Unit 022.<br />
The sorting and counting of the votes ran ended at 11.30pm, necessitating some voters to illuminate the venue with the headlamps of their cars.<br />
Meanwhile, Jonathan has returned to the Presidential Villa after casting his vote in his hometown, Otuoke, Bayelsa State.<br />
<br />
He was inside his official residence while the votes cast in the two units were being counted.<br />
He was said to have returned at about 8.30pm.<br />

The University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate, UCLES, now Cambridge Assessment, has provided further details on the West African School Certificate, WASC, results presented by Muhammadu Buhari, the candidate of the All Progressives Candidate in the February 14 presidential election.<br />
In a new post on its website, the university confirmed result grades for the examination in 1961 were issued in numbers, not letters, as suggested by critics of Mr. Buhari who have dismissed the results he presented as fabricated.<br />
According to Cambridge, “Examination results were classed in grades from 1 to 9”.<br />
“1, 2,3,4,5 & 6 indicate a Pass with Credit; 7 & 8 indicate a Pass; 9 indicate a Failure,” the school said.<br />
Results tendered by Mr. Buhari shows he had credits in English Language, Geography, Health Science, Hausa Language; failed in Mathematics and Woodwork, and had a pass in Literature in English.<br />
In its post, Cambridge said for candidates to qualify for its certificate in 1961, they needed to pass English, and not necessarily Mathematics.<br />
“To pass the School Certificate, candidates had to pass examinations in a variety of groups. It was compulsory to pass English Language, but not Maths, in order to gain the Certificate,” the university said.<br />
<br />
The details followed intense controversy over whether Mr. Buhari, a former Head of State and retired Army General, completed his secondary education.<br />
The Nigerian constitution requires any candidate running for the office of the President to have at least the Senior Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent.<br />
The ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the campaign office of President Goodluck Jonathan accuse Mr. Buhari of lacking the requisite qualification for the office of the president.<br />
Mr. Buhari, who ran for president in 2003, 2007 and 2011, repeatedly declared that copies of his academic records were with the military.<br />
The former head of state also said original copies of his credentials were lost when his house was raided when he was in detention during the administration of Ibrahim Babangida who toppled his regime.<br />
<br />
The Army at first said it had copies of Mr. Buhari’s results, but backtracked later, saying it had only a letter of recommendation from his principal at Katsina Provincial College, result grades without either the statement or certificate.<br />
In response, Mr. Buhari obtained copies of his WASC result from his former secondary school, now Government College, Katsina.<br />
After the publication of the Statement of Results, some Nigerians, including President Jonathan and the PDP, dismissed the results as forged.<br />
One of the allegations said Hausa language was not part of the Cambridge exams in 1961.<br />
Another said Mr. Buhari’s results that year were recorded in alphabets, not in letters as Mr. Buhari claimed.<br />

While Cambridge has declined to categorically confirm Mr. Buhari’s results, saying only the APC candidate could request or authorize such disclosure, the school posted a response to enquiries on the matter on their website authenticating some of the claims in Mr. Buhari’s result.<br />
The University confirmed that according to the Regulations for 1961, African Language papers, including those for Hausa, were set for the West African School Certificate.<br />
It also put the number of candidates who sat for the WASC Hausa examination in 1961 at 152.<br />
“Our records show that Hausa was set in the Northern Region in 1961,” Cambridge said.<br />

This is a shocker but speaking with the former President OBJ himself at his farm in Ota, he has given a few reasons why his defecting should not just be accepted by Nigerians but should also be applauded.<br />

“I have reason to believe that most or should I say all of you are wondering why I have chosen to defect to the defunct APC and I must say that if I had been told that I would have to switch party some 5 years ago, I myself would have argued it.<br />

I believe in transparency and integrity but unfortunately, PDP is an opposite of such attributes.<br />
<br />
They dwell in deception and in the lowest form of debase if I may say.<br />
<br />
I believe change is what Nigeria needs and regardless of whether GMB can deliver or not, it is still change in a way. Nigeria needs to be delivered from a useless government that has taken over since I left presidency.<br />

If you have read my book, you will see that Jonathan is nothing different from my VP when I was president. Atiku was just a big time backbiter unknown to him that when you have people behind you, your back actually becomes visible to you.<br />

The PDP presidential campaign office says the documents released by the Government College Katsina as the results of the APC presidential candidate Buhari, are forged, manipulated and fraudulently procured.<br />
The Director of Media for the Campaign Organization, Femi Fani-Kayode, said that instead of providing conclusive proof that he possesses the required qualification, he has only stumbled into a new phase in the matter.<br />
Using an enlarged printout of the documents, the Director of Media showed what he said were clear indications of alterations and cancellations that questions the authenticity of the documents.<br />

He said that the police and other security agencies should seek out the authors and masterminds of the forgery and prosecute them in accordance with the law.<br />

Former Nigeria’s president Olusegun Obasanjo has spoken about the certificate controversy rambling WASC certificate of the presidential candidate of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) General Muhammadu Buhari (retd).<br />

Obasanjo said that incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan is aware that his opponent is capable to run for February presidential poll but some hawks with Jonathan, do not want him to contest because they believed that he will win and come for them.<br />

According to ex-president, “The issue came up in 2007, and we investigated and found out that his WASC is with the military and that was why he was allowed to contest in 2007.<br />
<br />
“Buhari cannot listen to anyone about his certificates because as a General of Nigeria Army, he will speak when he chooses not by Femi Fani Kayode and Okupe asking him. Fayose and other corrupt people including Kashamu do not want Buhari because of his anti- corruption slogan.<br />

Than Obasanjo disclosed that “even Jonathan did not finish his PhD course but when it was presented we stated that, it does not matter but many people do not know because it was PDP thing. I see Buhari as the next President and Jonathan is aware of that, and that is the reason they are hitting him everywhere to put confusion in his camp. But a General is always a General.”<br />

ABUJA – PRESIDENTIAL Campaign Organisation, PCO, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,  has accused the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, General Muhammadu Buhari, rtd of committing perjury, alleging that he (Buhari) lied on oath.<br />

Addressing Journalists, the Director of Media and Publicity of the campaign Organisation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode asked Buhari, to as a matter of urgency,  throw in the towel by withdrawing from the  presidential race.<br />
<br />
The PDP campaign Organisation spokesperson  also urged him to report to the nearest police station, adding that the Armed Forces must strip him of his ranks and privileges, stressed that with the papers on ground, General Buhari who rose to the rank of a Major-General and  became a head of state, was never qualified to enlist in the Nigerian army as a commissioned Officer, adding that if he fails to report to the Police, the PDP would then hand him over to God.<br />

Femi Fani-Kayode, whose speech was titled, ” And Buhari lies on Oath, said, “Information reaching us now has shown that the presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari has disclosed today in Kano at a press conference that the affidavit he swore to, in which he claimed that his credentials were in the custody of the military was not true after all.<br />

Recall that Buhari, at another press briefing Wednesday said; “I had assumed all along that all my records were in the custody of the Military Secretary of the Nigerian Army. Much to my surprise, we are now told that although a record of the result is available, there are no copies of the certificates in my personal file. This is why I formally requested my old school the Provincial Secondary School, Katsina (which is now known as Government College, Katsina) to make available the school’s copy of the result of the Cambridge/West African School Certificate. This will be made available to the press the moment this is available”.<br />

Fani-Kayode continued, “The implication of the action of this so-called “Mr Clean” is nothing but perjury and we all know that this is a grave criminal offence under our laws and constitution.<br />
<br />
“We urge Buhari and his party to do the right thing, tender an unreserved apology to the Nigerian people. He should throw in the towel and report to the nearest police station for interrogation and prosecution. Anything less than that would be an insult to the collective intelligence and integrity of the Nigerian people.”<br />
