Obasanjo’s Tearing of PDP Card Reminded Me of King Saul Rejecting David in the Bible – Femi Fani-Kayode

Former president of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo left many in shock after his dramatic exit from PDP.<br />
<br />
Director of Media and Publicity for the People’s Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation (PDPPCO), Femi Fani-Kayode, is still in shock. In a statement released on the matter, he described Obasanjo’s tearing of the PDP party card as painful and tragic. He also likened the action to biblical times, when King Saul rejected David.<br />
<br />
Here is the statement, as reported by Punch:<br />
<br />
Watching our party membership card being torn up whilst President Obasanjo was standing there and smiling was painful and tragic.<br />
<br />
This is a party which he helped to build and on whose platform he was elected President for eight good years.<br />
<br />
The truth is that President Obasanjo is far better and far bigger than that. Such behavior is provocative and unacceptable.<br />
<br />
He is free to leave the party but does he have to spit in our faces by tearing up our party card in public and before the television cameras?<br />
<br />
This knee-jerk reaction is most unlike President Obasanjo and it is very insulting. It is clear that he has burnt all the bridges and that he has left us forever.<br />
<br />
On a personal note, I feel saddened by this but the truth is that many in our party members have heaved a huge sigh of relief. Many of us love President Obasanjo and we shall continue to do so regardless of whether he is in our party or not but tearing up that party card was too much to bear.<br />
<br />
It spoke volumes and it was indicative of the deep hatred and contempt that he has for us and our cause.<br />
<br />
It reminded me of the biblical passage in which King Saul rejected David and then planned to stop him from ascending to the throne by attempting to kill and destroy him.<br />
<br />
Thankfully, the Lord was with David and not only did he deliver him from Saul, but he also crowned him King.<br />

Obasanjo Defects To APC

Research has it that the former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo aka OBJ, has finally defected to the GMB-Driven party – APC.<br />
<br />
This is a shocker but speaking with the former President OBJ himself at his farm in Ota, he has given a few reasons why his defecting should not just be accepted by Nigerians but should also be applauded.<br />
<br />
Find his statement below:<br />
<br />
“I have reason to believe that most or should I say all of you are wondering why I have chosen to defect to the defunct APC and I must say that if I had been told that I would have to switch party some 5 years ago, I myself would have argued it.<br />
<br />
I believe in transparency and integrity but unfortunately, PDP is an opposite of such attributes.<br />
<br />
They dwell in deception and in the lowest form of debase if I may say.<br />
<br />
I believe change is what Nigeria needs and regardless of whether GMB can deliver or not, it is still change in a way. Nigeria needs to be delivered from a useless government that has taken over since I left presidency.<br />
<br />
If you have read my book, you will see that Jonathan is nothing different from my VP when I was president. Atiku was just a big time backbiter unknown to him that when you have people behind you, your back actually becomes visible to you.<br />
<br />
I want to use this medium to say a very big thank you to the leaders of the APC for accepting me as I am and I am proud to say that come 2015, APC is taking over Nigeria for good of us all.<br />
<br />
I am a civilian like you all now so I understand what it means to live in the suburbs as you are all aware that I stay nowhere else apart from my village here in Ota.<br />
<br />
Finally, I would like to implore all Nigerians that come 2015 Elections, VOTE GOOD GOVERNMENT NOT GOOD LUCK”<br />

Dear Sir,<br />
I don’t know where, and how really, to begin this without coming out as yet another cultural dissident.<br />
<br />
For once, perhaps because of my recognition of your heightened illusion of patriotism, the temptation to ask an elder to shut up, is no longer resistible.<br />
I want, dear Sir, for the sake of everything sane, and also for the sake of your old age, to beg you to desist from ridiculing the intelligence the pawns of this political chessboard we call a nation.<br />
This country may be a haven of chastised criminals, with too many boisterous opportunists, emergency heroes, uncomplicated underclass and sycophantic middle-class, but we’re not entirely stupid.<br />
<br />
I follow your self-initiated deification these days, and how an amnesic nation embraces yours as expressions of genuine intention, but memories of your days in power persist:<br />
We have not forgotten the electoral malpractices that returned you to power in 2003,<br />
And, having failed in your Third Term bid, you prevailed in bringing the late Umaru Musa Yar’adua to power in 2007;<br />
We have not forgotten the failed promises that characterised your administration, including giving up a false hope of redeeming our power problem, especially with that unnecessary gimmick of $16 Billion electricity scheme;<br />
We have not forgotten, also, the Halliburton scandals which really indicts,<br />
The PTDF and Transcorp scams,<br />
And all the dubious economic reforms and privatisations designed to loot the nation.<br />
Can you, my dear sir, explain now how Abacha’s recovered loots were expended for the development of this nation? And how much, exactly, was recovered?<br />
There was neither transparency nor evidence that Abacha’s billions were judiciously used.<br />
<br />
Also, what did you do in reforming the Ministry of Petroleum Resources and related agencies, in which the biggest of the nation’s Oil scams continue to be carried out?<br />
Too many questions, and these are just from a single citizen. Others may have more to ask!<br />

Former Nigeria’s president Olusegun Obasanjo has spoken about the certificate controversy rambling WASC certificate of the presidential candidate of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) General Muhammadu Buhari (retd).<br />

Obasanjo said that incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan is aware that his opponent is capable to run for February presidential poll but some hawks with Jonathan, do not want him to contest because they believed that he will win and come for them.<br />

According to ex-president, “The issue came up in 2007, and we investigated and found out that his WASC is with the military and that was why he was allowed to contest in 2007.<br />

“Buhari cannot listen to anyone about his certificates because as a General of Nigeria Army, he will speak when he chooses not by Femi Fani Kayode and Okupe asking him. Fayose and other corrupt people including Kashamu do not want Buhari because of his anti- corruption slogan.<br />

Than Obasanjo disclosed that “even Jonathan did not finish his PhD course but when it was presented we stated that, it does not matter but many people do not know because it was PDP thing. I see Buhari as the next President and Jonathan is aware of that, and that is the reason they are hitting him everywhere to put confusion in his camp. But a General is always a General.”<br />

Former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, revealed he can sacrifice his life for Nigeria, but wouldn't do the same for any political party.<br />

During a courtesy visit to his Hilltop residence in Abeokuta by the presidential candidate of the National Conscience Party, Dr. Martins Onovo.<br />

He said,<br />
“My first pre-occupation is what is best for Nigeria. Nigeria first, party second and any other thing, third. I can sacrifice anything in the interest of Nigeria and I can sacrifice my own life for Nigeria.“I can’t sacrifice my life for any party’s interest but I’ll sacrifice my life in the interest of Nigeria.”<br />
 Because people may come up and say Nigeria doesn’t belong to anybody, I believe that is a stupid saying. Nigeria belongs to all of us because anything that doesn’t belong to anybody, anything can happen to it. For me, Nigeria belongs to all of us and we are stakeholders in this country.<br />

“Let me make my own position clear, I am a card carrying member of the PDP, because that is the party on which platform I became the President of this country.<br />
“If what you’re trying to do is in the best interest of Nigeria and Nigerians accept and vote for you, who I am I not to accept you as President of Nigeria, I will. But in this your campaign, try to inform, woo and to convince the electorates but whatever may be the outcome of the election after you have done all that, once the election is free and fair and undisturbed, uninterrupted, then you have to accept the verdict of the people.”<br />

Former president Olusegun Obasanjo according to AFP held a meeting last weekend in his Ogun State farm with relatives of some senior Boko Haram fighters as well as intermediaries on how to free the over 200 missing school girls by negotiating with Boko Haram.<br />
 It will be recalled that the girls in question have been missing since April 14th, 2014 which makes it exactly one month and 13 days today.<br />
